Schedule 1: Maambo Code of Conduct
Code of conduct for the Mentor on the platform
As the Mentor on the Platform, you play a vital role in supporting and guiding individuals who seek help. To ensure a safe, respectful, and impactful experience for both the Mentor and the Mentee, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Confidentiality and Privacy
-
Respect confidentiality: All conversations with the Mentees must remain private and confidential. Do not share any personal information or experiences discussed unless required by law (e.g., cases involving self-harm or harm to others).
-
Use the Platform responsibly: Only communicate with the Mentees through the Platform’s secure channels to protect privacy and data security.
2. Empathy and Non-Judgmental Support
-
Practice empathy: Approach every conversation with understanding, patience, and compassion. Avoid making assumptions or judgments about the Mentee’s experiences.
-
Stay neutral: Offer guidance based on your personal experiences but avoid pushing your opinions or telling the Mentees what they “should” do.
3. Boundaries and Professionalism
-
Maintain healthy boundaries: While you are encouraged to connect with the Mentees, always maintain professional boundaries. Do not engage in inappropriate relationships, personal financial exchanges, or any form of favoritism.
-
Time commitment: Be punctual and committed to your sessions. If you cannot attend a scheduled session, cancel the Session no later than 24 hours before the start of the Session.
4. Honesty and Transparency
-
Be honest: Share your experiences truthfully. If a question or situation is outside of your expertise or experience, be transparent with the Mentee, and encourage them to seek additional support or guidance when necessary.
-
No false promises: Avoid guaranteeing specific outcomes. The role of the Mentor is to guide, not to solve every problem or guarantee success.
5. Inclusivity and Respect for Diversity
-
Respect all backgrounds: Treat every Mentee with respect, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or socioeconomic status.
-
Avoid biases: Be mindful of your language and advice to ensure it is inclusive and respectful of diverse perspectives and experiences.
6. Non-Therapeutic Role
-
Understand your role: As the Mentor, you are not a therapist. Offer support through sharing your personal and professional experiences, but do not attempt to diagnose, treat, or provide clinical therapy. If you feel a mentee needs professional therapeutic help, gently guide them toward appropriate resources.
7. Ethical Behavior
-
No exploitation: Do not take advantage of your position as the Mentor for personal, professional, or financial gain.
-
Report concerns: If you become aware of any unethical behavior from another mentor or inappropriate behavior from the Mentee, report it immediately through the proper channels within the Platform
8. Continuous Learning
-
Stay informed: Make efforts to continuously improve your mentorship skills
-
Accept feedback: Be open to feedback from the Mentees and the Platform team to ensure that you provide the best possible support.
9. Adherence to the Platform Policies
-
Follow the Platform rules: Comply with all guidelines, terms, and conditions of Maambo to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone
